For decades, Trinity Lutheran Church has been serving the Slayton area with a faith-based preschool.

On September 14, the longtime Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod congregation reaffirmed its support of the school with the dedication of a new playhouse that stands on property just north of the church.

The new Lofted Barn Playhouse was pre-built by Old Hickory Buildings of Marshall and features a wrap-around porch, honey-gold exterior, burgundy metal roof, door and windows. There is a large cross on the front of the building.

The project was paid for by the church, through donations from its members and family members, and is designed for use by its preschool and Sunday School students. There is a large, engraved Appreciation Sign that recognizes donors and past preschool teachers and assistants.

The project was headed by Ryan Beers and unanimously received approval from the Church Council.

The Trinity Lutheran congregation, led by Pastor Jeff Williams, dedicated the new playhouse following a church service during which preschool director Beth Carlson was installed on Sept. 14. A potluck lunch followed the dedication ceremony outside the church.

Trinity Lutheran’s preschool was established in 1985 and over the years has served as a learning experience and mission outreach for hundreds of youths in the Slayton area. There are photos in the church basement that include all the youngsters who have attended. This year, Mrs. Carlson is in her 14th year of teaching and her sixth year at Trinity. Beth and her husband, Eric, and children Henry, Hudson and Georgia, live in Lake Wilson.

Assisting Beth are Jenny Krohn of Slayton, Katie Kremer of Iona and Krista Keller of rural Slayton.

At the September 14 church service, Beth and her assistants provided the congregation with the following statement: “Our preschool team and families are so thankful for your unwavering support. Your generosity and prayers have made a huge impact on the lives of the children we serve.”

Trinity Lutheran preschool currently has 36 children enrolled in two classes for the 2025-26 school year. Pastor Williams officiates at chapel services two times per week for the youngsters.
